As the author or co-author of numerous articles and primary investigator or sub-investigator of countless research studies, he epitomizes the possibilities available to a physician who has an entrepreneurial spirit with a dedication to patient-centered care. He embraces the concept of prevention as well as an interdisciplinary approach to teaching patients self-management skills.
His book, Diabetes Management in Primary Care (2nd ed.), has been published this Fall. And he will kick off the inauguration of Destination CME for Primary Care Network in five popular resort areas (Branson, MO; Captiva, FL; Coeur d’Alene, ID; Hilton Head, SC; and Las Vegas, NV) in 2013.
In a recent survey, Primary Care Network members identified the top three therapeutic areas which will meet their needs in providing quality patient care: 1) Prevention and Management of Diabetes; 2) The Many Facets of Women’s Health; and 3) The Toolkit for Pain Management (pharmacology, procedures, and alternative interventions). Dr. Unger will present principles for successful prevention and management of diabetes and other clinical pearls concerning pain management and women’s health in collaboration with Susan Hutchinson, MD, and Steven Passik, PhD.
