Universal Influenza Vaccination

Last flu season (October to mid-May) witnessed the first influenza pandemic in more than 40 years. This year, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and the CDC recommend universal influenza vaccination for all persons 6 months of age and older. The National Influenza Vaccination Week is December 2-8, 2012. And the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) has produced a YouTube video for patients about the pathophysiology of influenza. In addition, for the flu season, the CDC will create a weekly report on the status of the outbreak of influenza to communicate to patients. Both of these means will hopefully motivate individuals to receive an influenza vaccination.
